High Frequency and High Resolution Ultrasound of the Skin

The DUB SkinScanner systems are high frequency and high resolution diagnostic ultrasound systems for use in dermatology, cosmetics field and pharmaceutical and clinical research. Different models, versions, frequency ranges and options are available for all requirements. Today the 22 MHz diagnostic ultrasound is a wide spread method for non-invasive skin analysis.

How it began

After 10 years of broad experience in medical ultrasonography, including an intensive research and development program, tpm was proud to introduce the first commercially available A/B digital ultrasound system - our DUB 20 in 1986 designed especifically for dermatology and cosmetic use with 20 MHz.

The finest resolution and superior quality of signal processing and image analysis are pre-eminent for the DUB® systems. The DUB provides continuous and rapid high resolution ultrasonography to exacting scientists. The already large range of functions has been stretched out in the Windows version since 2001. With the easy-to-handle window technology the DUB for Windows is easy to operate.

Today

Our product portfolio offers frequencies from 18 MHz to 100 MHz mostly covered by portable DUB USB devices. This broad range of devices provides an resolution (axial) from 88 µm to 16 µm.

Dermatology

In 1983 tpm started the development of a high frequency ultrasound (HFU) system for dermatology in cooperation with the Dermatology Clinic of the University Eppendorf (UKE) in Hamburg/Germany. After three years of intensive research and development, tpm was proud to introduce in 1986 the first commercially available A/B digital ultrasound system worldwide – the DUB20 with 20 MHz, designed especially for dermatology and cosmetic use. In 1988 we received the 510k registration from the FDA (USA) for the DUB systems.

The finest resolution and superior quality of signal processing and image analysis are pre-eminent for the DUB systems. The DUB provides continuous and rapid high resolution ultrasonography to exacting scientists. Options like 3D and X-Scan for volume measurement, Vacu Elasto for measurements of skin elasticity and other software-extensions are available. Further developments for higher quality, better reproducibility, faster imaging and especially the usage of higher frequencies have never stopped.

The already large range of functions has been stretched out in the Windows version since 2001. With the easy-to-handle window technology the DUB for Windows is easy to operate. Our product portfolio offers frequencies from 18 MHz to 100 MHz mostly covered by portable DUB USB devices. This broad range of devices provides a resolution (axial) from 88 μm to 16 μm. The easy-to-operate DUB for Windows software works with almost all Microsoft operating systems from Windows XP to Windows 10 with 32 and 64 Bit. The newest version is also fully compatible with touchscreen computers.

From now on it is possible to attach a high frequency high resolution ultrasound imaging system to an existing PC, controlled by the DUB for Windows software. In 2007 the DUB-USB75 has come into our product line, which extends the USB systems to frequency ranges from 18 MHz to 75 MHz. In the same year the very high frequency system with 100 MHz was introduced. One year later, in 2008, the optional Vacu Elasto Pump for USB systems was introduced. In 2012 the DUBcutis was presented as cost-effective entry-level solution with 22 MHz as it is today a wide spread method for non-invasive skin analysis. One year later, in 2013, the DUB SkinScanner software was made compatible with almost all Microsoft operating systems up to Windows 10 with 32 and 64 Bit and is ready-to-use with modern touchscreen computers. Introducing the DUB SkinScanner software version 5 in 2015 with a complete new design und many new and improved functions. In 2017, the DUB SkinScanner 75.2 was presented as result of a five years intensive development. Our innovative approaches resulted in the unique combinations of the optical and HFU skin diagnostics - nowadays all our systems combine the HFU skin imaging and videodermoscopy, what add sufficient value for diagnostic possibilities.
Our latest development DUB SkinResearchScanner allow to study and diagnose the skin form the first microns in the epidermis up to the deep fat layers.

Ophthalmology

In 1993 we started a new development for ophthalmology, our EMS, the 'Electrophysiological Modular System' for VEP, ERG, EOG and OK examinations. We introduced this system in 1994 to the market. Until now we are still working together with national experts in ophthalmology for research and development. Currently we are finalizing a new development for measuring the ocular perfusion pressure and the ocular perfusion reserve.

Cooperation:
Since 1988, we work closely together with the university dermatological hospital in Bochum, Prof. Dr. Peter Altmeyer and his colleagues for clinical support for the high resolution ultrasound systems. Furthermore, we cooperate with the High Frequency Institute of the University of Bochum, Prof. Dr. Helmut Ermert. In 2001 tpm was integrated as the main industry partner in the ‘Competence Centre for Medical Ruhr (KMR)’ for further developments of the high-frequency ultrasound in dermatology. tpm developed under the KMR a completely new 100 MHz ultrasound system. The KMR was supported by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and is now established as KMR e.V. (registered association).

Since 2009 tpm is partner of the network AMPEL. The AMPEL network promotes and practices interdisciplinary thinking and operations of all partners, to identify synergies between human and veterinary medicine to lead to market-driven commercial applications and products.

In 2010 we started to work together with several universities and institutes in northern Germany for some new projects in the field of high frequency diagnostic ultrasound.

In 2013 tpm introduced our new partner office in Moscow, Russia. The company ANTA-Med has distributed our products for many years and gathered a lot of experience with their own private clinic.

Since 2014 we are working intensively together with First Moscow Medical University in the field of the images improvement and diagnostic criteria development.

From the beginning, tpm support the CME courses for Dermatologic Ultrasound diagnostics in Germany in Universities and Clinics of Munich, Cologne and Berlin.

In June 2018 the First International CME Course for the Dermatologic Ultrasound in the University of Madrid with the official support of the European Federation of the Ultrasound Societies in Medicine and Biology (EFUSMB) was supported. The team of the most famous experts in the dermatologic ultrasound provided lectures and intensive practical trainings for 80 dermatologists form EU. The next course took place in 2019 in the University of Cluj, Romania.
